The Marine Advisory Board on Nov. 8 approved waivers for two neighboring townhome properties on Hendricks Isle seeking to keep recently installed boat lifts.

Representatives for the applicants said the units have short shoreline frontage (about 22–25 feet usable) so the owners installed 4-post boat lifts and shared finger piers to berth boats perpendicular to the marginal dock. The lifts extend roughly 31 feet from the property line at 100 Hendricks and about the same at 102 Hendricks; applicants said both structures fall within the waterway-width allowance for vessels (the code’s 30% width rule) and that Broward County and state/Army Corps environmental approvals had been obtained. The applicants requested waivers to the city’s 25-foot marginal-dock limit to align city documentation with the installed lifts and secure building permits.

City staff confirmed the pilings within 25 feet were inspected and that permitting had been placed on hold pending the board’s waiver decision and the resolution of some electrical comments. Board members noted that these requests were smaller as a percentage of the canal width (about 18% in one presentation) and that prior waivers in the vicinity provide precedents. The board approved both waivers by roll-call votes and directed staff to proceed with building-permit review once outstanding technical items (e.g., electrical) are addressed.
