City staff updated the committee on The Landing project and warned the public that some recently paved or graded pathway sections remain under warranty and are not yet open for public use.
Aaron Klein, staff member, said sewer and water connections near Hemminger Ditch are expected to be completed and the contractor will begin drilling pilings for the boardwalk just north of the ditch in the coming weeks. He said the project will continue moving north and that the contractual completion date is January (next year), though work may extend over the next 14 months to complete boardwalk spans and related elements.
Klein urged the public not to use some pathway sections that "look usable" because they remain under warranty and the contractor is responsible for maintenance until the warranty period ends. He cautioned that missing bridge spans and other incomplete structures make certain sections unsafe.
Committee members reported seeing vehicles and dealer trucks temporarily parked or unloading on newly paved pathway areas. Staff said they have communicated with the dealership and asked them not to pull vehicles onto the pathway to unload; staff suggested temporary bollards or other short-term measures could be installed to prevent vehicular access if the problem continues. Klein said the police department had not been asked to patrol the area but that it would be discussed if violations persist.
Members also asked about parking capacity and management near The Landing, especially when SportsForce or other nearby sports facilities are busy. Klein said the park's parking is intended for park users, that staff have discussed overflow and shuttle options with SportsCenter and SportsForce, and that additional parking-management planning may be required to avoid conflicts.
