Tempe board approves personnel change; district announces donations and program highlights

The governing board approved a personnel summary that included appointment of Mark Lubbers to the role of transportation supervisor.
Joshua Buckley, assistant director of human resources, introduced Lubbers and noted he joined Tempe Elementary in August 2017 as a bus driver, later serving as an aide trainer and earning required certifications. Mark Lubbers addressed the board, thanked colleagues and family, and said he looks forward to continuing to support students and the transportation team.
Superintendent Driscoll announced donations from DeeDee's Discounts, the Tempe Diablos and State Farm: books and 300 mailboxes for the community valued at more than $22,000. Driscoll also highlighted district programs: Native American Heritage Month activities, a blue corn mush event and a Kitt Peak National Observatory partnership; an Esports tournament at Moseley with over 30 participants and a sixth-grade winning team; and seven Tempe elementary schools receiving A ratings from the Arizona Department of Education for the 2024-25 year (Arredondo, Broadmoor, Fuller, McKamey Academy, Meyer Montessori, Rover and Ward).
The introductions and recognition items were presented as part of the personnel and celebrate excellence segments of the agenda; the personnel appointment was recorded as approved in the meeting packet and reflected on the personnel summary.
