Members noted that the opening paragraph in the proposed text read as if the language were a local initiative; several trustees asked that the record make clear that the change is mandated by Ohio law and instructed staff to revise the introductory language to read along the lines of "Ohio law requires" the accommodation before moving the packet into the local 30-day review window.
Other HP 96-related clarifications discussed included changes to extracurricular participation rules for homeschooled or community STEM students, added references to bullying in relevant sections, and a calibration of who may participate in certain activities when districts are not open-enrollment. Trustees also asked staff to track where local modifications differ from state template language so the correct local text is posted during the 30-day review.
After discussion the board moved, seconded and approved placing the policy packet on the 30-day review required by statute.
