Wyoming City board hears facilities update; early-site package reported under budget

Wyoming City Board of Education trustees on Wednesday received an update on construction and site-preparation work and approved the primary facilities report, including an early-site package for upcoming school construction.

Facilities staff told the board all buildings identified for demolition have been razed, debris removed and crews are clearing vegetation and concrete slabs; work on buildings C and D remains in progress. District representatives said the most significant outstanding site question for the Elm School alternate site—whether the sewer line had a break—was resolved when an inspection found no break, removing a major feasibility concern for that location.

Board members were also briefed on the early-site package budget. A presenter said the package was “about $95,000 under budget,” roughly a 5% variance, and attributed the savings primarily to earthwork being lower than expected after soil borings showed minimal rock excavation. The presenter noted other line items such as the retaining wall, site water and gas and geotechnical services were slightly above estimate but did not offset the earthwork savings. The low bidder for the early-site work is the same contractor that completed demolition, which staff said should ease transition to foundation and site work.

Trustees moved to approve the primary facilities report. The motion was seconded and approved by roll call.

District staff also announced upcoming community design workshops—Vermont School on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and Elm School on Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m.—and a ceremonial groundbreaking at Hilltop School on Nov. 24 at 4 p.m.; postcards will be mailed to households.

The board’s approval places the facilities package into contract proceedings and keeps project scheduling on track for the next phases.
