Trustees secure Poor Farm marker, seek select-board letter to authorize survey and consider fencing

The Brentwood Cemetery Trustees reported Nov. 6 that a marker at the Poor Farm site has been installed and that they are preparing documentation and a town authorization letter to obtain a professional land survey.
Superintendent Joyce said she provided trust-fund trustees and finance staff with minutes, the timeline of public hearings and a transcript copy from the select board meeting that declared the site abandoned. She said the town's financial manager ("3 Bearings" as referenced in the meeting) indicated the trustees of the trust fund would need to approve the disbursement and the paperwork appeared in order.
Trustees discussed a professional survey with GPS points; the survey firm will require a letter from the town as title owner before issuing a contract. Joyce said she will draft the letter for the select board chair to authorize the survey and suggested LaValley Associates of Hampstead as the likely surveyor. Once surveyed, the trustees plan to add the site to the town GIS and tax maps.
On fencing, trustees said fencing is likely a spring project after the survey and that they will explore donated materials or gifts-in-kind from local vendors and volunteer labor to delineate the cemetery from adjacent woods. Trustees also discussed coordinating leaf blowing and adding loam during cleanup days with volunteers (Skip, Wayne and Jim were mentioned as helpers).
Trustees plan to present the documentation and the drafted select-board authorization at the next relevant trust-fund meeting to secure funding and contract approval.
