Council approves Christmas-in-the-City events, carousel and tractor parade requests

Clinton City Council approved requests from event organizers for the city’s December holiday activities, including a temporary parking-lot closure for a carousel, support for a lighted tractor parade and permission for the Christmas parade.
Event organizers said the main Christmas-in-the-City day is Dec. 4 and described new programming including a Christmas village at Vance Street Park. The city has placed a billboard advertising a carousel that will run Dec. 11–13 and asked permission to close the City Market parking lot for those three days.
Organizers also proposed a "very merry tractor parade" on Dec. 11 that would not require street closures if four police officers are placed at key intersections to control traffic. Organizers said the tractor parade is intended to celebrate the area’s agricultural heritage.
Council moved and seconded a motion to approve the parking-lot closure, authorize assistance for the tractor parade and include the tractor activity in plans for the Christmas parade on Dec. 13; the motion passed with members voting "Aye."
