Committee authorizes use of contingency funds after county reports unexpected postage increases

Adam (county staff) explained the causes: multiple required mailings (assessments, tax-sale notices, jury mailings and other statutorily required notices), changes in postal commercial rates and increases in per-ounce and commercial-mail charges over the last several years. Treasurer Donna Kurtz confirmed the county had maturing investments and would manage cash flows, but the contingency authorization was needed to avoid late fees or interest on an invoice for required mailings.
The committee approved using the contingency funds controlled by the committee (non-departmental) to cover higher postage this fiscal year and instructed staff to continue working with departments to minimize non-statutory mailings and to present a plan for long-term postage management.
