A presenter for the district’s digital literacy initiative asked the Hoke County Schools board on Nov. 8 to approve a $37,259.22 subscription to Learning.com for the 2025–26 school year.
The presenter said Learning.com is aligned to ISTE standards and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and provides K–8 digital literacy curriculum and tools for teachers and media coordinators. The district participated in the program through DPI’s fully funded initiative in 2021–22 and has since integrated the work into its strategic plan.
"For the 2025–26 school year, DPI has allocated funds coupling the $37,259.22 subscription cost. There's no direct expense to the district; however, as this amount exceeds our $30,000 threshold, we're requesting board approval to enter into the contract," the presenter said.
Board members asked clarifying questions, including whether the high school is included (the presenter confirmed the Learning.com licensing covers kindergarten through eighth grade only). The board did not take a final vote on the contract during the Nov. 8 consent sequence; the presenter requested approval to proceed with contracting.
What was not decided: There was no vote recorded on Nov. 8 to finalize the contract; the presenter sought board approval because the line-item exceeded board purchasing thresholds.
