Sewing for Veterans volunteers say quilts, monthly kits lift spirits of local veterans

Members of Sewing for Veterans told Citrus County officials during public comment that the volunteer group makes quilts and supplies monthly move-in kits for veterans.

The group operates under the West Citrus House veterans committee, and its founder, Susan Adams, said the projects are intended to make veterans feel remembered. "Just seeing the smile on their face or and they just can't believe that someone's thinking about them, and that's what makes it all worthwhile," Adams said.

Volunteers described an informal workflow in which individuals work on separate tasks—ironing, sewing and assembling kits—that come together as finished quilts.
