Parents, booster club and coach back scoreboard upgrades at Florence Fields

"The Florence Fields are amazing, and they are used by many, many children," said Carrie LaBounty, who identified herself as a school committee member and president of the Northampton Athletic Booster Club. LaBounty said the booster club and the recreation department have raised portions of the required funds and that scoreboards are a common amenity that improves the experience for players and families.
A new varsity baseball coach, Ariel Gutron, said a scoreboard helps players and spectators follow games and contributes to community pride and fundraising opportunities for local businesses.
The committee heard the testimony as part of a public-comment session and did not vote on the scoreboard request on Nov. 5. Committee members will consider their recommendations at the Nov. 19 meeting.
