Clerk Burris read the county letter aloud during the meeting: "Pursuant to education code sections 1 2 4 0 b and 4 2 1 0 0, Los Angeles County superintendent of schools county superintendent has completed our review of the Lawndale Elementary School District unaudited actuals for fiscal year 20 24 25. And the financial information has been forwarded to the California Department of Education." After the reading, a motion to accept and file the correspondence was made and carried 4-0 on the board's voting devices.
Separately, the district's business office told the board the federal government shutdown delayed the auditors' receipt of a compliance supplement that guides federal-funds audits. As a result, the district requested an extension and the Los Angeles County Office of Education approved the extension for the district and noted the impact applies to other local educational agencies using the same auditor.
The meeting included several bundled approvals that the board ratified by single motions: consent items 7.03 through 7.16; SELPA consent items 8.03 and 8.04; superintendent action items 9.03 through 9.15; and SELPA superintendent action item 10.03. The minutes of the board's Oct. 16, 2025 meeting were approved on a motion by Trustee Morales and seconded by Clerk Burrows; the minutes vote was recorded as three in favor, zero opposed and one abstention.
Most bundled motions were recorded as carrying 4-0. One motion (minutes approval) recorded 3 yes, 0 no and 1 abstention. When questions were asked about SELPA internships, staff said they would follow up with specifics about whether Cal State Long Beach was the only internship partner for the year.
Board members took no separate substantive action on the audit extension notice; the extension was described as a procedural accommodation tied to delayed federal guidance.
