Summary
Mayor Tony Biasciotta announced park and recreation investments including a pavilion at the cricket park, renaming the Farmer’s Market area to Sergeant Joe Andres Junior Memorial Park and annual September rec‑center maintenance.
Mayor Tony Biasciotta used the State of the City address to highlight recent and planned investments in parks, the recreation center and community events.
The city contracted for a pavilion at the cricket pocket park to give nearby residents a shaded gathering place, Biasciotta said. He also announced plans to rename the Farmer’s Market area "Sergeant Joe Andres Junior Memorial Park" and scheduled an unveiling for Veterans Day at 2 p.m. The mayor called the area the city’s future seventh park and said improvements will include substantial upgrades to the site.
On the recreation center, Biasciotta said the city performs an annual maintenance shutdown each September — emptying the pool, doing motor and locker‑room work, painting and other preventive maintenance. He said roof repairs are under consideration and that the city is seeking county and state funds but has not set a timetable.
The mayor also described converting the old WIXI 1260 radio property into a nature preserve and a lodge funded in part with a Clean Ohio grant and county partnership; the lodge is heavily booked for events and has become a local amenity, he said.
Biasciotta credited recreation staff and volunteers for strong program participation, cited a successful inaugural 5K tied to Home Days and said the city’s newsletters and sponsorships help support events. He encouraged residents to participate in upcoming events and to attend the Farmers Market unveiling.
