Schnell described the county’s Lorain County Collection Center in Elyria, which accepts household hazardous waste, electronics, paper for shredding and, for residents without curbside service, regular household recyclables. The center’s hours were listed as Mondays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesdays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Schnell also announced a special plastic grocery bag collection program kicking off Nov. 15 and running through the end of the year. Bags brought to the center will be tagged and weighed; donors may indicate a school to receive attribution, and the three schools with the most bags by weight will receive prizes such as items made from plastic lumber (benches, picnic tables or playground components).
A commissioner thanked Republic Services for tipping‑fee revenue that helps fund the center and noted the solid waste operation no longer draws on the general fund. The proclamation was presented and the commissioners took a photo with district staff and community partners.
