Sports Pavilion reports record October play, orders new pinsetters and lane machines

The Sports Pavilion reported a strong October and confirmed capital equipment replacements during the Nov. 6 Sports Pavilion Committee meeting.
"Once you see these numbers, you're gonna see why I'm smiling so much," Gary, Sports Pavilion manager, said as he opened the operations report. He told the committee the center recorded about 34,000 games in October — a one‑month high — and said games played were up roughly 6% from last year with about a 17% year‑to‑date increase in overall games.
The pavilion has adjusted league schedules and added time slots to accommodate demand. Gary said the Golden Rollers Saturday program was expanded from one shift to two after a recent session drew 206 bowlers, up from a usual 150 and large enough to eliminate the former waiting list. He said resident participation in leagues has climbed to just over 70% from roughly 60% when he started 15 months ago.
Gary outlined capital work and equipment orders: the pavilion has purchased two new lane machines and 30 new pinsetters; he reported the facility sold the two old lane machines for $26,000.20 and $6,000 and has a bill of sale for the old pinsetters, which Brunswick will remove and pay $66,000 to take away. "We are getting $66,000 for the old pin setters," he said, adding that the funds recoup part of the replacement cost.
Staff also announced a Nov. 10 start date for billiards‑room carpeting and said the project may reveal unknown subfloor conditions because the carpet had not been replaced for decades. Gary reported Lizard Acres pub, which opened in October, showed strong early beer sales based on keg usage, although full financials were not yet available.
The committee did not take formal action on capital purchases at this meeting; staff scheduled continued operational coordination during the installation window and said some lanes and the billiards room will be temporarily affected by the work.
