A cluster of Delridge and Highland Park speakers asked the committee to fund market expansion, neighborhood commercial opportunities and a community center rebuild.
Indra Budiman and Abukar Isaac, representing African Community Housing & Development, asked the council to back Councilmember Saka's investments in the Delridge Farmers Market and the Seattle International Public Market, saying the projects increase food access and create small-business opportunities. "The Seattle International Public Market will expand that vision creating lasting jobs, joy, and opportunity for generations in Delridge and across Seattle," Budiman said.
Highland Park Improvement Club members described a long community history and asked the council to fund reconstruction after a fire; they told the committee that volunteers have continued programming outdoors and that they are shovel-ready for construction. Amy Durgan said the club has a "blueprint" and foundation work underway and requested $500,000 toward framing and related construction costs.
Speakers framed the investments as both food-security and community-infrastructure projects that can support jobs, youth programming and public-safety through stronger neighborhood ties. The testimony was recorded for the committee’s balancing-package deliberations.
