Commissioners repeal recent flood-hazard amendment to align county and city rules

Vanderburgh County commissioners voted Nov. 4 to repeal a recent amendment to the county's flood-hazard ordinance so the county and the City of Evansville can develop a unified approach to floodplain administration.
Craig said the county passed an updated ordinance in late August but the city is still reviewing changes. "We would like to get on the same page with the city, so that we can have the standard, floodplain administration," he said, explaining that the repeal would return the county to the ordinance in place before the August amendment and allow the two governments to present a common ordinance later.
Commissioners moved to waive the second reading and approved Resolution CODotR-11-25-010 on first and final reading. The motion was carried by recorded affirmative votes.
Next steps: county staff indicated they will work with city officials to develop a joint ordinance for future consideration by both governing bodies.
