Speakers described the intersection as one of the most dangerous in the Panhandle and said the project has been under discussion for about two years with ODOT. "This is a much needed traffic signal," one council member said, adding crews have "not constructed it yet" but it is due to be let for construction soon and built after the first of the year. The council noted that ODOT will construct the signal and the city will assume maintenance responsibilities under the agreement.
A motion to authorize execution of the ODOT maintenance agreement passed by voice vote with four ayes.
Action and next steps: Staff will execute the agreement with ODOT and plan for maintenance responsibilities once the signal is constructed; construction timing is subject to ODOT scheduling and the project's letting process.
