Trustees press district on Martin High School leaks, floor and wall gaps after storm

Trustees described puddles on the main gym floor after a storm, an ongoing roof or wall leak near a trophy case light, a cinderblock wall in a supply room with a full-height crack and a second-floor gap between wall and floor described as roughly 1.5 to 2 inches wide over a length of more than a foot.
Angel Velasquez said he had not previously seen the specific conditions and would visit Martin High School with campus leadership and maintenance staff. He told trustees that his office receives many work orders and that some issues require direct phone contact or an on-site inspection rather than a standard work order; he asked campus administrators to call his office for issues that look structural or significant.
Trustees requested immediate reporting when a work order reveals conditions that may be more serious than a routine repair, and asked that district architects or engineers be directed to evaluate the second-floor gap and the cracked wall to determine whether the issues relate to construction methods, materials or settling.
