District operations staff told trustees on Nov. 3 that a draft structural report for Don Jose Gallego Elementary identifies localized structural concerns that require repairs.
Angel Velasquez said the engineering draft documents "some settlements" and missing bolts that connect the rigid metal frame to exterior walls. He described recommended repairs that include inspecting and reattaching connections where bolts are missing, re-leveling the foundation (a technique noted in the report that can include polymer injection to lift the foundation), replacing damaged brick veneer and removing and reinstalling sidewalks after foundation work.
Velasquez said two rooms at the end of a wing are not in use for safety reasons. He told trustees the district has the draft report and his summary was distributed as a board update; cost estimates and contractor quotes were not yet available. Velasquez said the district will solicit estimates from out‑of‑town firms that perform polymer injection and other foundation-lifting methods.
Trustees emphasized urgency and asked that staff report estimated costs and timing. Velasquez said next steps are to analyze the report, obtain quotes and present repair costs and options to the board. He also noted some repairs may be handled by district staff where appropriate but that specialty work will likely require outside contractors.
