The board adopted a proclamation on Nov. 4 recognizing Kathy Gomes for her years of service to Calaveras County government and congratulating her on her retirement effective Nov. 14, 2025.
Board members recounted Gomes’s county service dating to 1989, her roles in the Assessor’s and Auditor‑Controller offices, her appointment to fill an Auditor‑Controller term in 2019 and election in 2022, and her reputation for thorough financial reporting and staff development. The proclamation text describes her leadership through changing administrations, emergency events and routine county financial stewardship.
Gomes briefly addressed the board, saying, “It’s been a pleasure, mostly… It’s been my honor to have been here as long as I have.” Public commenters and longtime colleagues offered additional remarks; Marie Durham of the Assessor’s Office and Greg Sessions, who served as Gomes’s assistant, praised her professionalism and mentorship.
The board passed the proclamation by unanimous vote and wished Gomes well in retirement.
