Committee favors recurring local EV meetups and an 'EV corner' instead of one large event

Committee members and town staff discussed EV outreach options on Nov. 6 and generally favored a lighter, recurring model over organizing a single large test‑drive event.

Paul, a committee member, said town counsel expects planning for events but that another single, large event would be a large lift. He proposed a recurring approach of community meetups and owner‑volunteer test drives to provide repeated, informal exposure: "I think we'd be better off… two or three individuals who would share their experiences… and it will be done repetitively over the year," he said.

Ideas included an online "EV corner" with resources and a calendar for monthly or bi‑monthly meetups where owners would bring vehicles for walk‑around demonstrations and, where individual owners agree, supervised rides. Committee members noted that private individuals allowing test drives is covered by personal auto insurance when the owner gives permission; staff said they would check with town counsel on official town involvement.

Members suggested leveraging existing community events—harvest fair, touch‑a‑truck, July 4 parade—as outreach opportunities while maintaining a recurring small‑scale meetup to sustain engagement. The town also plans to publicize its first municipal electric pickup (an F‑150 Lightning) when it comes online and include electric vehicles in future touch‑a‑truck events.

The committee agreed to pursue the lower‑lift recurring model and asked staff to coordinate wording with town counsel before public outreach.
