Glynn County approves $25.68 refund to Northland Pickleball Group after Golden Isles event

Glynn County's Finance Committee approved a $25.68 refund to the Northland Pickleball Group for court rental fees tied to the Golden Isles Pickleball Classic held in September at the county recreation complex.

Lisa Urbana, Recreation Parks Director, told the committee the county recently implemented an online process for fee-waiver and refund requests and that "the request comes before the event but after the organizer has paid the fee." Urbana said this refund is the first to come forward under the new system; historically the county received roughly five or six such requests a year but the new portal centralizes the process.

A representative of the Northland Pickleball Group (identified in the record as Teresa Peoples) described the event's turnout and charitable work. Peoples said the organizers paid the nonrefundable cleaning fee of $50 per day (total $100 for two days) and that some proceeds were directed to charity. She told the committee, "we're getting the $3,000 to the Leukemia Foundation." She also described monthly free events and clinics the group runs for residents.

Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the $25.68 refund; the motion carried by voice vote. Staff said the group followed the new online submission process and submitted supporting documentation after the event, consistent with the county's updated procedure.

The committee thanked the organizers for community outreach and encouraged ongoing use of county facilities and the new portal for future requests.
