Glynn County approves Coastal Georgia Foundation agreement to create designated fund for Ahmaud Arbery Park improvements

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 6 approved an agreement with Coastal Georgia Foundation Inc. to establish a designated fund aimed at raising private donations to support future improvements and maintenance at Ahmaud Arbery Park.
County counsel described the agreement as creating a fiscal-agent relationship in which the foundation will "act as a, basically, a fiscal agent to raise product funds with the goal being to raise $350,000 of product funding to go towards improvements and maintenance of the park." The foundation sets a $25,000 minimum and the county will contribute $25,000 in seed money; counsel said the county contribution "is part of what commissioner Booker has remaining of a 125,000, I believe."
The attorney added that the foundation will handle donation processing and accounting and that "at any point when that goal is achieved or any point before that, the county can go ahead and call on the funds to be contributed towards the county." He emphasized that construction or improvements funded by those donations would require separate approvals and procurement steps before work proceeds.
Commissioners voted to approve the agreement by motion. Commissioner Booker, who sponsored the item, was not present due to a medical procedure; the item proceeds as described in the agreement presented at the meeting.
