The sheriff's office briefed commissioners on Oct. 7 about a contract for opioid‑abatement work and requested the county open new budget lines (BARs codes) so the office can receive revenue and pay invoices.
A sheriff's representative said the $54,000 contract was backdated to July 1 and runs through the grant year; invoices are already outstanding. The official asked the commissioners to authorize a budget supplemental to the auditor so a new section and BARs lines in fund 017 can be established. "This contract has lingered along in approvals for months and months," the speaker said, asking for commissioners' approval to open a BARs line for opioid abatement funds so bills can be tracked and paid.
County staff explained that the sheriff—s office will operate a new section within the sheriff's budget, similar to prior grant setups, and that the county will process a budget supplemental to add revenue and appropriate line items so the office may run negative briefly until the supplemental is adopted. Commissioners and staff noted many of the contracted services will itself administer funds and invoice the county in turn; the county—s role will be to receive and pass through revenue and perform accounting oversight.
The board agreed staff would start the supplemental process and return the paperwork to the commissioners for approval.
