Kern County Fire and the Wasco Police Department presented monthly activity reports to the Wasco City Council during the public safety portion of the meeting.
Kern County Fire reported 136 total incidents in September: 16 fires, 83 medical calls and 37 miscellaneous calls, according to the chief’s report.
Wasco Police Chief reported October activity totals of 1,720 incidents, including 1,030 calls for service and 690 officer-initiated activities. The department logged 76 arrests, recorded five stolen-vehicle reports with one recovery, conducted 345 driver stops that produced 142 citations, and made 33 citizen contacts. The department also reported community fundraising: officers sold pink patches ($10) and T-shirts ($25) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raised $1,300 for a local family.
The police chief said the department is near its PAL program enrollment goal, reporting 95–96 youth enrolled against a goal of 100. Councilmembers praised the department’s visibility and outreach, and several thanked officers for community engagement programs such as Shop with a Cop and No-Shave November fundraising.
No new policy or budget votes were taken during the reports segment.
