Staff presented the MDD’s sales-tax report for October 2025, reporting $45,346.69 in collections for the month, an increase of $4,651 (11.43%) compared with October of the prior year.
Harrison (staff) displayed a five-year chart showing a gradual increase in October receipts and said the top 10 taxpayers in October contributed $14,111, about 31% of the month’s total. He reported the local/remote sales-tax split remained consistent with prior months at roughly 28% local and 72% remote.
Staff said the town is conducting sales-tax audit work with ZAC Tax; the first round of audit results were submitted to the comptroller, and Shannon McPherson, the town’s new accountant, is coordinating the back-end reconciliation work. Harrison noted that Chick-fil-A collections now appear in the town’s reports and said the town is confirming whether shipments to a nearby apartment complex should be attributed to the MDD limited-purpose annexation zone.
A board member asked whether the October increase reflected inflation or greater spending; staff said the increase exceeded expected inflation and likely reflects higher purchases locally and online as well as new businesses that opened since last year. No formal action was taken on the report; staff said an end-of-year comprehensive report will be provided next month.
