Conway district launches community-collaboration committee focused on mentoring and birth-to-kindergarten pipeline

District staff and community partners presented a new community-collaboration committee at the Oct. 14 board meeting that will coordinate mentoring, character development and a birth-to-kindergarten pipeline.
Preston Echols said the committee includes partners such as the Boys & Girls Club, United Way, Excel by 8 and City of Hope Outreach (CoHo). The stated goals are to strengthen partnerships to support student development, provide consistent mentors for students, and create a pipeline from birth through kindergarten to improve readiness. The committee plans additional meetings (next scheduled for Oct. 22) and will present a more detailed plan to the board in January.
Community partner Thelma Moten and others described the need for cross-sector supports for families and teachers and expressed enthusiasm for a culminating community event that could include services such as health screenings and volunteer-driven supports. District leaders said the committee is intended to channel volunteer and business offers into structured opportunities aligned to district goals.
