Board appoints superintendent search advisory committee and extends application deadline

Dr. Jeff Standridge described the proposed superintendent search advisory committee process and responsibilities at the Oct. 14 meeting. He said committee members must exercise discretion, participate in an orientation, use a rubric to review applicant materials, and provide rubric-based feedback on finalists; the committee may also run structured reference checks depending on the board—s preference.

Board members filled seven initial seats during a numbered-selection process that the superintendent described; the board approved a final proposed slate that included a central office administrator, building-level administrator, teacher representative, classified staff member, elementary and middle/junior-high parent representatives, a student representative, higher-education and civic/nonprofit representatives, a business leader, an at-large member and a board representative. Dr. Standridge reported about 100 unique nominations and 165 total submissions.

Staff acknowledged a late posting to the American Association of School Administrators job board and asked whether the board wanted to extend the application deadline; the board voted to extend the deadline from Oct. 26 to Nov. 4 (the board clarified the correct extension date during the meeting). The committee will meet in the intervening week and provide rubric-based feedback to the board before the Nov. 11 meeting.

The board approved the list of committee appointees and the deadline extension by voice votes; the meeting record did not include a roll-call tally.
