Board recognizes paraeducator of the year and long‑time PTA leader

The Cheshire Board of Education opened its Nov. 3 meeting by recognizing two community educators.
Doctor Zoll introduced Christina Sherwood, elementary supervisor for special education, who highlighted Jeri Purnell as Cheshire’s 2025 paraeducator of the year. Sherwood described Purnell’s work as an ABA/DTT paraeducator at Norton School, noting her leadership as a paraeducator mentor and her role helping to open a new classroom at Norton. "From day one, she greeted students with a smile," Sherwood said, and a colleague quoted in the presentation said Purnell brings "warmth, kindness, and a genuine positive energy."
Later in the presentations, Doctor Harrigan presented a school partnership award to Denise Roncari for years of PTA leadership and sustained volunteer work at Dodd Middle School. Roncari’s involvement included organizing events, fundraisers and partnerships with Parks and Recreation to expand student programming.
The board congratulated both honorees; no action was required.
