DNR awards Corcoran partial outdoor recreation grant; some playground costs ineligible due to timing

City staff reported that the Department of Natural Resources notified the city it had been placed on a list for available outdoor recreation grant funds and the city now has an award. Staff said because substantial playground work had already been contracted and some items paid or delivered before final award notice, those components will not be eligible for reimbursement or match under the grant rules. Working with the DNR grant administrator, staff estimated between $175,000 and $200,000 of the $350,000 award might be usable for eligible site amenities (benches, bike racks, additional landscaping) and possibly some limited scope change orders.
Staff asked for council consensus to continue pursuing allowable uses of the grant, to evaluate site amenity options and to coordinate with the grant office on timing and eligibility. Council gave general consensus and asked staff to provide the requested contact information for the grant administrator.
No formal appropriation or contract change was made at the meeting; staff said final eligible uses will be defined by DNR rules and the city's procurement and grant reimbursement processes.
