Committee discusses roofing scopes, library funding options and old courthouse bid schedule

County facilities staff gave the Capital Outlay Committee a combined update Nov. 6 on roofing needs at the Justice Center and Lanham Library, funding workarounds for the library project and a separate bid process for old courthouse hallway renovations.
Rick said the county will get a moisture scan for the Justice Center and will meet with Scott St. John’s office next Wednesday to finalize scopes and pricing; Scott St. John’s office will handle approvals and invoicing for the courthouse and library projects. The committee heard that justice-center roofing work is expected to be completed more quickly (with a goal of a May completion for one project) because it is further along in planning, while the Lanham Library work requires more engineering and is not expected to finish until next spring.
Staff noted tariff-driven material cost increases and said adjustments to projected budgets were being made to cover the higher cost. On the old courthouse, staff said Scott St. John completed bid packages and that four contractors participated in walk-throughs; bids are due around the 14th and work is hoped to start in January using a grant for hallway renovation.
No new appropriations or contract awards were approved during the meeting; funding options for Lanham Library will be discussed at the capital budget finance meeting.
