Summary
Chabad Jewish Center presented a conditional-use request for a place of worship at 2520 Masai Boulevard; rabbi representatives described community programming and said the center has outgrown its current space. Council closed the public hearing and will consider the application at its Nov. 11 meeting.
Chabad Jewish Center of Monroeville asked council for conditional-use approval to operate a place of worship at 2520 Masai Boulevard. Rabbi Mandy Shapiro described Chabad's history in the community (founded locally in 2009), the range of programs the organization offers and the need for a permanent home to expand worship services, holiday events and community programming.
Manager Graziano confirmed required application materials were filed. Rabbi Shapiro said the center serves both the local Jewish community and broader residents through outreach and shared programs; she requested "council's approval and, just as important, their blessing" for the conditional-use permit. No members of the public registered opposition during the hearing.
Council moved to close the public hearing; the motion carried by voice vote and the application will appear on the Nov. 11 council agenda for formal consideration. Any zoning conditions would be determined during the formal review process if council votes to approve.
