Court to consider design for Great Crossing Park fields, pool and amphitheater in interlocal plan with city

Scott County officials told the fiscal court they will present Resolution 25‑17 next Friday to authorize design work for the next phase of Great Crossing Park, including additional youth baseball and softball fields and potential siting of a permanent outdoor amphitheater.

Drew Beckett and other parks staff described demand for fields and said current venues are at capacity. "We're busting at the seams," Beckett said, asking the court to advance design so the county can price alternatives, including turf versus dirt fields and whether a wagon‑wheel configuration can be expanded from four to five fields.

The resolution also contemplates the city supervising design and possible procurement of a lap pool under an interlocal agreement; planning staff said cost sharing would be split 50/50 between city and county if both entities proceed. Discussion covered parking challenges during large tournaments, options to protect turf from dog damage, and preserving open hillside and tree planting near the park entrance.
