The RSU 60 board discussed a recent facilities tour of Lebanon Elementary School with civil consultants and scheduled a follow-up facilities workshop for next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to continue initial planning and gather community input.
Board members described the facilities review as an early, foundational step and cautioned that a formal decision on options could take about a year because of required steps—consultations with the town selectboard, community outreach and additional planning. "It takes a full year to really go through the process once a decision is made," a board member said.
Several staff members who spoke during public input urged the board to hold workshops in Lebanon and to include building staff in discussions because those employees have operational knowledge that can inform planning and avoid misunderstandings. One staff member said district staff had been encouraged to attend the tour but were surprised not to be part of subsequent discussions and asked for clearer, earlier communication.
The board agreed to a public process, to solicit input at the workshop and to coordinate with the selectboard. The board also said it would consider making the next meeting a formal public meeting (rather than a workshop) if broader public comment is desired. No binding decisions about facility changes or capital investment were taken at the meeting.
