The Schenectady County Health, Housing and Human Services Committee on Nov. 5 accepted two state funding actions: a New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) grant for Glendale Nursing Home training and an Office of Mental Health (OMH) aid adjustment that increases pass‑through funding to community partners.
Todd, director of Glendale Nursing Home, told the committee the facility qualified for the NYSDOH grant based on 2022–2023 staffing and retention data and will receive “a little over $148,000” to support training for direct‑care staff. The vendor LeadingAge New York will provide several training sessions intended to reduce hospitalizations.
A legislator asked whether the county maintains baseline quality performance indicators (skin integrity, dementia care and similar measures) to track the effect of training on hospital admissions. Todd and staff said those quality measures are tracked through regular assessments and that quarterly quality assurance (CQI) meetings are held; legislators were invited to attend.
Committee members also heard that OMH notified the county of an aid adjustment increasing funds by about $96,000. The OMH funds are pass‑through dollars intended for community partners; the committee granted permission to accept the additional funds.
Both items were moved, seconded and carried without recorded opposition.
