Board hears recommendations to create dance team and Sprout Club and to approve nine overnight/out‑of‑state trips

Administrators brought several student activities to the board for approval: a dance team club at Manheim Township Middle School and the Sprout Club at Manheim Township High School, each accompanied by a request to establish a student activity fund.

Dr. Rodney Riley said the dance team club’s purpose is to entertain audiences, prepare dancers for the high‑school program, build teamwork and promote school spirit; an adviser and student interest were confirmed. School administrators said the Sprout Club would focus on environmental sustainability education, replace the existing environmental club and has a willing faculty adviser and student interest.

Separately, administration presented nine proposed overnight or out‑of‑state high school trips that require board approval under policy, and said plans for funding, chaperones, supervision and transportation are in place. Board members asked about why some events (for example, wrestling districts and states in Hershey) require overnight stays; administrators explained that tournament schedules and the possibility of multiple competition days can make overnight stays necessary to ensure students are available for morning contests. The administrators also confirmed chaperone ratios and contingency funding if additional students qualify.
