Elementary band performs national anthem and concert preview at North Hills board meeting

An elementary band performed for the North Hills School District Board of Education at the Oct. 16 meeting, playing the Star-Spangled Banner and a preview of the district’s December concert.

Directors Jeff Lucas and Jessica Webster introduced the group. Lucas reflected on the school’s musical tradition and noted his long history attending North Hills events: “I’m always amused by this because it reminds me what I’ve been... going to North Hills football again for a long time,” he said. The directors told the board the performers were volunteer sixth-grade students and that roughly 90–95 students participate in the grade’s band program; several of those students also volunteered to perform at the Arts Alive program in May.

After the performance, a number of the students introduced themselves by name to the board. Board members thanked the students and invited parents to remain for the meeting or to leave if they preferred.
