District launches college-and-career initiative to expand dual enrollment and internships

The Unionville-Chadds Ford School District presented a new college-and-career initiative intended to coordinate existing counseling supports, expand dual-enrollment opportunities, and create experiential pathways such as internships and externships.
Pat Clark, who led the student-activities presentation, said the initiative is “not about saying we’re not doing enough,” but about “how do we maximize those opportunities.” The district recently added a dedicated college-and-career counselor and created a career speaker series and a college-counseling website; the initiative will build on those efforts.
Administrators described three paths under consideration: (1) school-based programming and curricular adjustments (for example integrating personal-finance requirements with college-and-career content); (2) expansion of dual-enrollment agreements beyond current partners; and (3) external-experience programs such as internships, expanded senior projects and externships tied to community partners. The district plans to form a steering committee this fall and expand membership to alumni and community partners in coming months.
A short data-gathering step is scheduled Oct. 21 at curriculum council followed by a larger committee meeting on Oct. 22; a more detailed presentation of first steps will go to the board in November.
