Staff and community members asked for clarity about International High School’s future. Assistant Superintendent Angel Wilson and Superintendent Matias Segura described significant enrollment declines in the program that serves newly arrived immigrant students and said a reconfiguration as a program — rather than a stand‑alone traditional high school with a full administrative structure — is being considered.

NUMBERS AND RATIONALE

Wilson said the current tenth‑grade cohort numbers about 90 students while the ninth‑grade cohort is about 10 to 11 students; the cohort size drops to single digits after tenth grade when students enter comprehensive high schools. Segura and Wilson said these enrollment levels make maintaining a separate high school structure difficult and that co‑locating the program with other campus resources near Navarro is under discussion to keep services for students where they live.

DISTRICT COMMITMENTS TO STUDENTS AND STAFF

District leaders said they are meeting with multilingual and school leaders to determine how to allocate resources, how to maintain supports and how to plan personnel transitions. They pledged ongoing conversations with school staff and families and said additional meetings are planned so the community can review options and supports.

Segura said any reconfiguration would prioritize continuity of services and access, and that transition planning would focus on student supports, counselors, licensed mental‑health professionals and maintaining ties with existing community partners. He asked families to attend follow‑up meetings and use comment cards to record questions and concerns.
