District advances ELA rollout, science adoption reviews and schedules PACE student survey

ELA and classroom visits: Curriculum staff reported ongoing classroom visits across elementary and secondary ELA classrooms as teachers implement the new HMH ELA resource. Teachers have raised both technical navigation questions and curricular questions about pacing and where particular skills are assessed; staff said ongoing grade‑level and ELA committee conversations will address alignment and assessment timing. Professional development for staff is planned for February and March with follow‑up cycles to support implementation.
Science adoption: The district narrowed science instructional resources to two finalists, Amplify and Twig. Curriculum staff are arranging in‑district and virtual visits to neighboring districts that use those resources (Mid Valley and Lower Marion were cited) to allow teachers to observe the program in practical use before a final recommendation.
PACE student survey: Administration announced the PACE survey (grades 6, 8, 10, 12) will be administered on Nov. 21. Staff said the instrument is voluntary and anonymous; parents will receive a phone call and email notification in the days prior and there is an opt‑out process handled through building administrators. Staff said the survey provides social‑emotional and climate information that will be triangulated with academic and other data and that the district has conducted similar surveys for about a decade.
