County attorney Misty Leland presented a draft resolution prepared at Commissioner Adams’ request asking the North Carolina General Assembly to abolish the jury commission, a body established under state statute in 1967. Leland said the request stemmed from concerns that the process is outdated and that staff could perform selection activities more efficiently using modern databases and software.
Commissioner Adams said members are not lining up to serve on the commission and that the process is time‑consuming. He and another commissioner asked staff to gather additional information, including input from the Clerk of Superior Court, and moved to postpone the item to the Nov. 18 meeting. The board voted to table the resolution to Nov. 18 for further review and stakeholder input.
