Board asks NCDOT to add school zone for Fellowship Christian Academy and nearby schools on Union Church Road

County attorney Misty Leland presented a resolution asking the North Carolina Department of Transportation to add a school zone in front of Fellowship Christian Academy (FCA) on Union Church Road and to consider extending it to cover nearby New Century Middle School and Union Pines High School. Leland said FCA has grown to more than 200 students and that the road is busy during arrival and dismissal times.
Vice Chair Commissioner Picerno said the request was a common‑sense effort to reduce a stretch of road where drivers might otherwise speed up between school zones. Commissioners adopted the resolution and directed staff to forward it to NCDOT for its review and action. The resolution requests that DOT evaluate the corridor and consider placing or extending school‑zone signage as appropriate.
