Moore County commissioners approved amendments to opioid‑settlement contracts, doubling the second‑half allocation for First Health of the Carolinas and Samaritan Colony and extending contract periods to June 30, 2026.
Health director Matt Garner told commissioners the health department will administer opioid‑settlement funds and recommended midyear amendments for partner contracts for the second half of fiscal 2026. Garner recommended keeping funding levels for the second half of FY26 the same as the first half and presented the proposed increases and extensions for two partners: First Health of the Carolinas (from $67,314 to $134,628 total) and Samaritan Colony (from $120,000 to $240,000 total). He said the Boys & Girls Club funding decision will be made later and the county would meet with Adult & Teen Challenge of the Sandhills to clarify next steps prior to the December meeting.
Garner told the board that as of Oct. 23, 2025, Moore County had received $4,321,252.91 in opioid settlement funds and $232,294.64 in interest, for a grand total of $4,553,547.55. Commissioners approved amending and extending contracts for First Health and Samaritan Colony and directed staff to meet with Adult & Teen Challenge before the December meeting to work through funding steps. Finance will issue spending authorizations after documents are prepared and approved.
