County proclaims November 2025 Adoption Awareness Month; DSS provides counts

Renessa (Vanessa) Carthens of the Moore County Department of Social Services briefed commissioners and asked the board to adopt a proclamation recognizing November 2025 as Adoption Awareness Month.
Carthens told the board that Moore County Department of Social Services serves nearly 68 children in substitute care and that adoption is the permanent plan for 33 of those children. She also reported that Moore County finalized 12 adoptions since Sept. 1, 2024, and emphasized that some waiting children have special needs or are older or part of sibling groups.
The board adopted the proclamation naming November 2025 Adoption Awareness Month in Moore County. Commissioners thanked department staff and discussed administrative challenges including state software systems; no additional local funding was approved at the meeting.
