Parks recreation staff reported increases in program enrollment and reach across multiple channels and events.
Angela (parks staff) said a partnership event with the Wichita Community Collective and USD 259 drew about 1,500 visitors at Southeast High School. Staff also reported a sizeable rise in football and youth-sports enrollments (department brochures showed a 343% enrollment increase for one program year-to-year), and said the Miracle League baseball program grew to 36 enrollments and doubled from four to eight teams.
Angela told the board that all aquatic facilities, including pools and splash pads, are closed for the 2025 season and that staff are compiling a facilities-issue list to discuss with building services. She also highlighted other recent events including Arts in the Park at the Great Plains Nature Center and Open Streets ICT, the latter of which staff estimated attracted about 20,000—25,000 attendees.
Staff did not propose programmatic fee changes or contract awards at this meeting; the report was informational and intended to update the board on participation and facility needs.
