City awards $548,718.35 contract for Broadway Median No. 4 improvements

The Salina City Commission on Oct. 27 approved awarding the Broadway Median No. 4 project to Prairie Landworks Incorporated of McPherson, Kansas. The low bid was $522,588.90; adding a 5% construction contingency ($26,129.45) produced a total authorization not to exceed $548,718.35.
Ron Marsh, director of public works, said this fourth phase completes median improvements on Broadway, with earlier phases covering Marriott Avenue to Republic Avenue. The approved work will cover Broadway from Republic Avenue to Cloud Avenue and small sections north of State Street. Marsh noted bids were received on Oct. 9 and Prairie Landworks submitted the low bid; Jim Cowaj, city engineer, was available to answer engineering questions.
A commissioner asked about anticipated start and completion dates; staff said dates were not yet set. The commission moved, seconded and approved awarding the contract and authorizing the city manager to execute the contract upon fulfillment of bid prerequisites. The motion passed 5-0.
