The Junction City Commission accepted a $142,000 donation from Quality Play for All on Oct. 7 to fund upgrades at Hemet Park, including turf, concrete borders and a 2–4 year play area, officials said.
Kendall Schonrock, speaking for Quality Play for All, told the commission the group has raised more than half a million dollars for Junction City parks over the past decade and targeted Hammond Park equipment and Hemet Park upgrades as their recent efforts. "We thought 12th Street Community Center needed a nice upgrade," Schonrock said, noting collaboration with city staff and vendors.
Public works and parks staff confirmed the donation would add to previously approved city allocations for playground improvements and would be used to purchase equipment and site work as specified in the project quote included in the agenda packet. Commissioners moved to accept the check and to proceed with procurement consistent with the donor's purpose; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff said the donated funds would not supplant prior city commitments but would supplement the approved scope to enable expanded surfacing and play areas. The commission approved the related procurement motion to authorize staff to accept the funds and proceed with the equipment purchase per the packet quote.
