Calaveras COG leans toward Heritage Circle logo after consultant presentation
Summary

Planetary Media presented four logo concepts to the Calaveras Council of Governments on Nov. 5 and asked the board to provide direction for a final selection and the next phase of website and identity work. The concepts — labeled Heritage Circle, Mobility Icons, Motion Lines and Regional Map — each displayed multiple color and orientation variants and stationery mockups.
Natalia Arica, the project’s UI/UX designer, described the Heritage Circle as a traditional circular mark with icons representing transportation modes; the Mobility Icons concept used four converging shapes and bright colors; Motion Lines emphasized speed and efficiency in a green palette; and the Regional Map used Calaveras County’s silhouette as a distinctive territorial mark.
Board members discussed printing costs, color choices and the visual message of each concept. One member said the Regional Map felt divisive because it suggested internal divisions; several members said fewer colors could reduce printing expense. Multiple members said they preferred a circular government seal aesthetic. The board informally polled its members and the majority indicated support for the Heritage Circle middle variant. Staff noted the item was informational but asked for direction so consultants could proceed; consultants will take that guidance into the next phase of design and implementation work.
