Yuma County proclaims Adoption Day and Operation Green Light for Veterans Week; local veterans honored

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors issued two community proclamations on Nov. 3. Supervisor Pankrantz read a proclamation declaring Nov. 22, 2025, to be Adoption Day in Yuma County and encouraged residents to support foster and adoptive families. Imelda Reillano Nunez, director of the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center, said the county held an early National Adoption Day celebration on Nov. 1 during which 15 children, ages ranging from nine months to 17 years, were finalized into permanent families.
The board also proclaimed the week of Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, 2025, as Operation Green Light for Veterans Week, during which county buildings will be lit in green to honor veterans. Supervisors invited veterans to come forward; dozens accepted and multiple veterans were introduced by name and branch during the meeting. The board thanked the Southern Arizona Nurse Honor Guard for an upcoming bench dedication at Gateway Park and for the Nightingale tributes they provide to families and nurses in hospice care. Marilyn Whittington, representing the Honor Guard, said the group provides both living tributes and posthumous Nightingale tributes and announced a Friday bench dedication and public invitation to attend.
The proclamations were ceremonial and no public policy action was required.
